2012

January 2012 started with some more serious tree cutting. Here one from the 3rd day of the year:

Some winter impressions of our house and garden after the first snow of the season...

February had even more snow! This is the part of our garden that we rented for the first 2 years, it was then sold and a house was build there.....
Birds in our garden !

March was the start of yet another raised vegetable bed, just next to our terrace. I bought some foil to have a greenhouse effect so that the vegetables would grow faster. Carrots, salad and radishes is what I planted:

Summer in the garden !
Julia and Miriam next to my new (serious) barbequeue, both in their traditional Bavarian Dirndl.
First results of my 2012 gardening adventure:

Harvesting some radishes :)
More vegetables, from June.

Looks like July 2012 wasn't that bad !

August 2012...

More serious work in September, taking down a mini forst in front of the house (this only shows the (almost) end results after days of cutting trees, bushes, taking out roots....

Mushroom during November...
This used to be our garden (view form our terrace during sunset and during the day):

And here the few from the street on to our house, soon a house was build just here !
And this concludes 2012!

Back in Germany (2010 - 2011)

2010 we moved back to Germany, to a village just outside of Munich, in beautiful Oberbayern. 1 hour away from the Alps, and just a few hours from Italy and the South!

The house has a good sized garden, which did not get too much attention over the years, so it has grown a lot ! Enough work for all of us to get our hand dirty !

Here is an example from May 2011, where we had someone come by and cut one of the many trees that were too close to the house:

Here some photos from construction work. The house was a bit too dark inside for our taste, so we had 2 extra windows put in ! This is the one in the basement:

Here is a photo from Nov. 2011 from an hedgehog in our garden, right under our apple tree !

Exciting day, harvesting my first broccoli and planting more vegetables....

Check this out:

Isn't this beautiful ? My first proper broccoli ! I am so excited....

Take alook how they have turned out so far, very well I think:

Also, my first cauliflower is coming out, still small but exciting to see too:

I decided to cut 3 of the small lettuce completely as they were not growing much, then also cut my first 2 broccoli heads and we had a wonderful dinner just now. Even the kids has some broccoli :) Definitely the best tasting broccoli ever !

Finally, planted 1 red cabbage, 1 green chard and 1 red chard into the new empty spots. I hope they turn out well as it still gets very cold (with sometimes frost), but fingers crossed....

Daffodils, Hyacinths and some mystery flowers....

Finally got around to plant my birthday presents before the year ended on December 30th: I planted 5 daffodil bulbs, 3 Hyacinth bulbs and a couple of bulbs my daughter gave me from her school (I call them mystery flowers for now).

I used a couple of the pots where I had lettuce in which I took out as it did not grow in there (only grew in my raised beds).

Will post some pictures as soon as something exciting happens !

First Harvest !

Yesterday was a historic day ! For the first time I harvested some of my lettuce ! While a little bitter, it was yummy and I created a new 'honey mustard orange' salad sauce with it.

I am very excited that for the next few weeks, we should have plenty of fresh lettuce whenever we need it. See here for a picture from yesterday (romaine lettuce left, head lettuce right):
